Small Dog Costumes - Not Just for Halloween!

Dog costumes and clothes? Sure. As long as your portable pup doesn't mind or actually enjoys dressing up, holiday costumes are just the thing to add a bit more fun to Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, Fourth of July, birthdays, weddings... any special celebrations. But there are several important things to consider before buying a costume for your small dog:

• Is the dog's costume comfortable? Make sure the material isn't scratchy or stiff and that it fits with plenty of room for your pet to move around. High collars, too tight costumes and floppy outfits can ruin the day for everyone. And remember, "funny" is only good if it's not at the expense of your dog's comfort.
• Is the costume safe? Can your dog walk easily and not trip over some part of the costume? Is it visible to cars at night if you're "trick or treating" your neighborhood? Consider the surroundings you'll be in when your dog is in costume.
• Is the costume annoying for your dog? Hats, antlers, horns and ears may look adorable but will they annoy your pet? If your pup will be shaking his head all night or have the item constantly falling down over ears, eyes or nose, you may have to take a few photos of the full costume and then remove the extra pieces.
• Is the costume stylish? It can be more fun to have your pet dressed in an outfit that matches or complements yours. Do a little shopping before settling for less.
